Women's Health

At Innovative Therapy and Wellness, we have staff with advanced training in pelvic floor rehabilitation.  If you suspect you have pelvic floor dysfunction, pain, or symptoms of urinary incontinence, call today to schedule an appointment.

During your evaluation, you can expect:
  • A musculoskeletal examination including postural and structural assessment
  • Evaluation of connective tissue in abdominals, back, pelvis, and lower extremities
  • Myofascial evaluation of pelvic girdle, with examination of trigger points
  • Internal pelvic floor examination to assess muscle tone, motor control, strength, and tenderness
  • An individualized treatment plan will be designed for you to address your specific goals.

Pelvic Pain and Dysfunction

Pelvic pain and dysfunction, including prolapse, often can be treated with physical therapy intervention. The musculoskeletal system can be a source of pelvic pain and physical therapy plays an important role in the evaluation and treatment of this pain.

Common symptoms may include:
  • Pain with intercourse
  • Difficulty sitting, standing, or walking
  • Difficulty wearing tight clothing, jeans
  • Chronic constipation
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
  • Low back, groin, hip, or buttock pain
  • Difficulty or pain with exercise
  • Painful periods
  • Urinary hesitancy, urgency, increased frequency, and/or leakage

Urinary Incontinence

Urinary Incontinence is another condition that often can be treated with physical therapy intervention.  This is a condition that should not just be accepted as a normal part of aging or after childbirth.

Causes of under-active pelvic floor muscles contributing to incontinence may include:
  • Muscle weakness after pregnancy
  • Injury or trauma
  • Surgery in region
  • Lack of exercise/lack of use
  • Joint pain

Pregnancy Related Issues

Pregnancy and post-partum issues can occur that impact your pelvic floor and the connective tissue in the pelvic region.

Some symptoms occurring from the body's response to pregnancy may include:
  • Hormonal changes leading to lower back or pelvic pain
  • Postural changes
  • Urine leakage due to strained pelvic muscles
  • Perineal, or pelvic pain
  • Persistent low back pain

What Our Clients Are Saying

Dr. Tracy Hernandez and staff at Innovative Therapy & Wellness are the most talented and professional physical therapy group. Dealing with chronic pain for nearly 10 years, I had yet to receive the proper diagnosis and care until I arrived at Innovative. I am now able to use my arm, I'm walking and feel overall significantly less pain.

Dr. Hernandez is the most knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely caring physical therapist and her staff is a reflection of that too. They use the multiple techniques for treatment, and go above and beyond in their care.

I am so fortunate to be treated by the talented staff at Innovative Therapy.
